It is with profound sadness that Cohen Cleary, P.C. shares the passing of our beloved colleague, mentor, and friend, Miriam H. Babin, Esq., who passed away in August 2026. This page, once her attorney profile, now remains in her honor.
Miriam devoted nearly five decades of her life to the law and to the people it serves. A graduate of Barnard College, Columbia University (A.B., 1975) and Boston University School of Law (J.D., 1978), she was admitted to the Massachusetts bar in 1978 and to the United States District Court in 1979. She began her career in private practice, concentrating in family law and criminal defense with both demanding skill and compassion, which she brought in abundance. Miriam was a proud member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Bristol County Bar Association, and the New Bedford Bar Association.
For twenty-three years, Miriam served the Commonwealth at the Bristol County Probate and Family Court as an Assistant Judicial Case Manager, where she managed caseloads for judges, conducted legal research, and helped shape the procedures by which countless families found resolution. Few people ever come to know a courthouse, its rules, its rhythms, and its human dimension, the way Miriam knew hers. When she retired from court service, she did what only someone who truly loved the profession would do—she kept practicing, joining Cohen Cleary as a Senior Associate lending her impressive command of Probate Court procedure to our clients and our attorneys alike.
To those of us at Cohen Cleary, Miriam was a colleague and a mentor who was generous with her knowledge, patient with young lawyers, and whose legacy is one of compassion, kindness, and service to the community.
